Undokai

The Japanese community in the Hood River Valley gathered annually between 1923 and 1929 here on the Yasui brothers property in Mosier for a summer picnic called an “Undokai.” The gathering of more than 200 participants was an all-day family event filled with games and activities. The Yasui farm in Mosier was owned by Masuo Yasui from 1923-1944. The “Undokai” festivities took place on a bluff overlooking a lake and on the beaches of the Columbia. The property is now part of Mayerdale.
