The Enchanted Alpaca

This alpaca farm offers breathtaking views of a meadow set at the base of Mt. Adams, and the farm hums with life-giving, sustainable farming. Alpacas are a growing part of the agriculturally dominated Gorge, appearing in parades, downtown events, hospice and care-facility visits, and First Fridays!  The store in historic downtown Hood River offers products made from this herd of 100 head of alpacas, products created by local fiber artists, rugs and blankets from textile mills in the U.S. (made of fleece from their herd), and more.  Both the farm and the store create a visual and educational opportunity to learn about a growing livestock that is sustainable, has a low impact on the environment, is not killed for its product, and produces pounds and pounds of cashmere-type fleece that creates luxurious products that last for generations.  The farm also offers a small herd of reindeer to share with the public.

The farm offers tours throughout the summer (which can be scheduled through a visit to the store) and/or for shearing days, Open Farm Days, chances to watch the miracle of birth, halter training, etc. Literature on textiles, rasing alpacas and sustainable husbandry are available at both the farm and The Enchanted Alpaca Store.
