Philip Foster Farm

The Philip Foster Farm is the only authentic pioneer site open to the public on the Barlow Road, the main artery of the Oregon Trail to Oregon City. Established in 1847, the living history museum features the original 1883 house, 1860 barn, replica store, cabins and blacksmith shop, covered wagons and heritage gardens. Summer events include Mother’s Day Brunch, Barn Dance Social, Cider Squeeze Harvest Festival and A Country Christmas. Period-dressed guides offer tours, interpretation, pioneer skills and crafts demonstrations and hands-on activities. Many emigrant diaries exclaim happiness at finally reaching “civilization” after their 2,000-mile trek.

“… we came in sight of these houses and gardens, fields and fences!  My heart arose in gratitude…” —Esther Belle Hannah, arriving at Foster’s,1852
