Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center

Crystal-clear waters, emerald-green mosses and old-growth forests emblematic of Oregon’s Cascades thrive in the Opal Creek forests. In fact, the Opal Creek Wilderness and neighboring Bull of the Woods Wilderness are the largest contiguous area of low-elevation old growth left in Oregon. This ancient rain forest represents what once blanketed the Pacific Northwest.

Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center’s mission is “To promote ancient forest stewardship through educational experiences inspired by Opal Creek’s natural and cultural history.” To this end, educational programming has been implemented that strives to ensure the future of Opal Creek and old-growth forest gems like it by teaching program participants about the significance and uniqueness of such an environment.
