North Fork of the Willamette River

The North Fork follows the Aufderheide Memorial Scenic Highway that goes from Westfir at the south end to Highway 126 at the north end (about 50 miles). The river has world-class kayaking during high-water seasons. The river’s canyon lies in the Willamette National Forest, and numerous hiking and mountain-biking trails can be found along the gorge. The area is alive with wildlife, including deer, Roosevelt elk, bald eagles, cougars and more.  The river travels southward and enters the Middle Fork at Westfir, where a picturesque covered bridge crosses the river just prior to its merging.

  • Seasonal access (road closed by snow in winter)
