The McKenzie River Trail is one of the signature places in Oregon. This 26-mile trail follows the McKenzie River from its genesis at Clear Lake down to the community of McKenzie Bridge. Nearly the entire trail is in old-growth forest, and the river’s water is crystal blue or deep green, depending on the season and weather. Waterfalls, pools and log bridges and the forest make this the one of the most fun and most beautiful trails you’ll ever see. This trail was rated by Bike Magazine as America’s #1 trail in 2008.  Start at Clear Lake and marvel at such clarity that allows you to see ancient trees more than a hundred feet underwater.  Bike or walk the trail through volcanic lava fields, feel dwarfed by the giant old-growth forest and its lush greenery, and be entranced by a dancing stream as it grows into a river and delights you with multiple spectacular waterfalls.

The U.S. Forest Service, McKenzie River Trust, McKenzie Watershed Counsel and McKenzie River Tourism Association all promote the natural preservation of the McKenzie River Trail.  In addition to promoting responsible enjoyment of the trail, these groups raise and spend money for its preservation and environmental education.  Due to its pristine nature, it is a top destination to experience the ecosystem of the western side of the Cascades.
