Larch Mountain

Larch Mountain is the highest viewpoint that is easily accessible for viewing the Columbia River Gorge. A volcano itself, Larch Mountain helps in understanding the unique geology of the area – the Cascade volcanoes and the Columbia River cutting through the mountain range. There are multiple trails from the parking area, some of which connect all the way down to the Columbia River Historic Highway, lined with waterfalls including Multnomah Falls. From the top of the trail network you can enjoy fantastic views of Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge.

To access Larch Mountain, follow the Historic Columbia River Highway toward Multnomah Falls from Troutdale. Just after the Women’s Forum Viewpoint, Larch Mountain Road splits off to the right. Follow it approximately 14 miles to the parking lot at the top.

  • ADA accessible
  • Seasonal availability – road blocked by snow in winter/spring
