Jonsrud Viewpoint

This site provides one of the best views of the Sandy River valley, the Cascades and Mt. Hood. With only a few roads and farms, it probably appears much the same as it did hundreds of years ago. One of the roads that is visible is a portion of the Barlow Road segment of the Oregon Trail. The view captures the essence of the Cascades: a Wild & Scenic river, forests and mountains.

While being relatively close to the Portland metropolitan area, this site allows visitors to appreciate the natural environment that is so important to our lives. Interpretive signs describe natural and historical features, and the landscaping at the viewpoint park is made up of native drought-tolerant species. A free telescope allows visitors to watch deer and elk drinking at the Sandy River. The viewpoint is part of the Mt. Hood National Scenic Byway.
