Hole in the Ground

Hole in the Ground is a distinctive feature of the Cascades. It is a spectacular, memorable site – it is what it’s called, a giant, round depression in the middle of nowhere – and it naturally invites one to question, How did it form? The place combines the natural open beauty of the eastern Oregon landscape and wildlife with geology, hiking and so much more. Once you see it, you’ll never forget it! It’s located in the Fort Rock Basin, off Highway 31. (Note: The road to this site is rugged; while 4-wheel-drive is not required, be prepared for slow going.)
