Five Covered Bridges Loop

This 50-mile loop winds through scenic Cascade foothills with very little elevation change, and is a popular bicycle route.  A tour route brochure is available at several business locations in Scio.

Twenty-five years ago the route included eight covered bridges.  Linn County began removing the bridges because of maintenance issues.  Citizen action resulted in legislative measures to preserve and maintain the remaining bridges for future generations to enjoy. The bridges include the Shimanek, the Hoffman, the Hannah, the Gilkey and the Larwood, which includes an adjacent county wayside.
