Desert Forest Journeys

This site includes four trails:

  • Ties Through Time Trail, interpreting the history of railroad logging in the Central Cascades
  • Open Forest Trail, where you can experience 300-year-old ponderosa pines and the wide variety of wildlife that belong to this ecosystem
  • Pines in the Pumice Trail, where you can stand on 50 feet of pumice deposited from Mt. Mazama as the Central Cascades took their final form 7,000 years ago
  • Ponderosa Postcards Drive, which offers several opportunities for short walks from your car

This site describes, in one spot, the relationship among the geology, ecology and human interaction with the Central Cascade environment.  It preserves old-growth ponderosa pine and historic railroad artifacts where the public can directly interact with them.
